Doodle Pantry - another Armadillo

UPDATE: My first design team card for the Seems A Little Sketchy challenge blog is featured at Bugaboo's blog.
They are sponsoring our FIRST challenge.  Check it out here

Today is the last day of November, so I thought I would finish out my first month as Guest Designer for Doodle Pantry with a card using Laurie's creations.  I just can't get enough of this cute lil' armadillo .  This time I used a sentiment that I thought was very appropriate for cards going to our deployed troops by way of Operation Write Home!  The image, sentiment and patterned papers are all from Doodle Pantry and can be found here.  I used Spellbinders Nestabilities circle and inverted scalloped circle dies as well as Bazzill cardstock to finish off the card.

Laurie Wilson at Doodle Pantry decided to take a month off from the Doodle Pantry Digital Challenge, but don't forget to join in again around January 5, 2012 for a new challenge.  Remember, you get a free image set just for playing along!  Never fear though, even though there isn't a challenge for December, you shop and save 30% off all digital images through December 24.  Merry Christmas from Doodle Pantry!

Hambo Hoedown - Computer

When I first saw this image, I thought to myself, "Really?!  I'm supposed to make a card with a picture of a computer?"  Well, I managed to do it and also make it a LOVE card for Operation Write Home! (More about that in a minute)  The other challenge at the Hambo Hoedown this week was to use something soft as in "soft"ware, so I chose ribbon as my soft item.  They don't call it a CHALLENGE at the Hambo Hoedown for nothing!

So, the deal with Operation Write Home and LOVE cards is that Archway will send a package of their delicious cookies with every LOVE card we send to our shippers by December 10.  For the address of the nearest shipper, click here.  For more details on the Archway/OWH Special Mission, click here!  The goal is to send 5,000 LOVE cards so that our deployed troops can receive 5,000 packages of cookies.  Now that's a lotta cookies!

OWH Midweek Throwdown - Stampin' Up Love

This week I was invited to make the sample cards for the Operation Write Home Midweek Throwdown Challenge.  The challenge is to make Love cards for the troops to use to send home, for Valentine's Day (deadline is Dec. 31) or for any time of year which is why we prefer "Love" cards to "Happy Valentine's Day" cards.

Your one LOVE card can help in so many ways.  This month, Our Daily Bread Designs is sponsoring a month-long challenge to make Valentine's/Love cards.  For every 25 cards linked on the challenge blog, ODBD will pay the shipping costs on up to two large boxes of cards to be sent to the troops.  We still need a few more people to link their cards to make it to 50 and get that second box of cards paid for!  Click here for more details.

Also, until December 10, Archway Cookies and OWH have partnered up again to send Archway's delicious cookies to our deployed troops for every Valentine's/Love card received by our shippers.  The goal is 5,000 cards which means 5,000 packages of cookies for our troops.  Come on now, who doesn't love a cookie while they are writing a card to the ones they love?!  Click here for more details.

So, what are you waiting for?  Start making those Love cards and share your creations at the OWH Stars and Stamps blog!

OWH Midweek Throwdown - Doodle Pantry Love

Boy, I've been busy this month, and it's been so much fun!  I've been Guest Designer with Doodle Pantry, written a tutorial for the Stars and Stamps blog, and now made sample cards for the Stars and Stamps Midweek Throwdown.

I just love the sheep from Doodle Pantry, and this one is just as cute as can be!  I used the Heart Sheep set, the sentiment from Love Sentiments along with the digi papers from Hearts A Flutter.

At Operation Write Home, your one LOVE card can help in so many ways.

Doodle Pantry - Quirky Armadillo

There are only 9 more days left to my stint as Guest Designer for Doodle Pantry, and I have loved every minute of it!  Don't forget that the Doodle Pantry Digital Challenge is still running until November 24.  Everyone's a winner - you will receive the Wishbone Ants set just for playing along!

Being from Texas, I had to use the Quirky Armadillo on a card before the month was out.  The image, sentiment and both patterned papers are all part of this Doodle Pantry set.  For just $2.50 you receive an outline image, a colored image, 6 sentiments and 3 digital papers!

Recently I saw a hysterical saying that would go perfect with my little armadillo for another card: Keep Texas Safe

Grandma's Feather Bed - Pt. 1

Bazzill has come out with patterned paper collections, and this was one of the firsts.  I just love the bright colors!  I bought it back in May and made some scrapbook pages with it, but I had some leftover pieces.  What better way to use the scraps from a page than to make a card to send to Operation Write Home!  I still have leftover pieces, so you are sure to see a few more cards made with this fab collection of paper.  Everything on this card is from Bazzill!

Hambo Hoedown - Wee Henry Turkey

This week's theme at the Hambo Hoedown is to use Wee Henry and his turkey friend along with a tag.  It took me a while to decide whether Henry and the turkey or the sentiment should be on a tag.  I finally decided on the sentiment.  I pulled out my We R Memory Keepers Maple Grove collection which has lovely fall colors in it and a Mojo Monday sketch from April 18, 2011.  Here is the result!

Cardstock and Patterned Paper - We R Memory Keepers Maple Grove collection

Wishing You the Best for OWH

During the 4-day scrapbooking retreat that I attended last weekend, I had a chance to make some cards (after I caught up on my scrapbooking pages).  I didn't bring a lot of cardmaking supplies with me, so I borrowed the stamp from my friend and used some paper I had bought a while back that I thought was fairly masculine and would work nicely for any type of OWH card.  This is what I came up with!
Card Supplies:
Patterned Paper and Blue - Pebbles Downtown collection
Yellow Cardstock - Bazzill
Ribbon - stash
Ink - Tim Holtz Distress Ink walnut stain
Stamp and Circle Punches - Stampin' Up (Riveting stamp set)

Love cards for Operation Write Home

The next holiday deadline for Operation Write Home cards is Valentine's Day on December 31; however, the most useful cards for OWH are the ones that are not so holiday specific, so I do "Love" cards that can be used for Valentine's Day or for any day.  At my scrapbooking retreat last weekend, I bought this beautiful paper from the My Mind's Eye Love Me collection.  I bought a 12x12 paper pack for scrapbooking AND a 6x6 paper pad for cardmaking.  I tried to choose the more masculine patterns to make some of my OWH cards this time - stripes, plaids, etc.
Card Supplies:
Patterned Paper - My Mind's Eye Love Me collection
Pink and Blue Cardstock - Bazzill
Stamp - Stampin' Up Riveting set
Punches - Stampin' Up

Masculine Thank You for OWH

Operation Write Home put out a request for masculine thank you cards, so I got right on it over the weekend at my 4-day scrapbooking retreat.  There were about 30 women at the retreat, and they helped, too!  We filled up the large flat rate box we started at Cat's Creations Scrapbooks OWH Cardmaking Party on November 3.  I was able to send a full box of 276 cards to my OWH shipper Kris this week.  About half were "Love" cards and half were "Thank You" with a few other types mixed in.  The upcoming holiday deadline is Valentine's Day/Love cards on December 31, so we are well ahead of that which helps the shippers out a lot.  On to the next one now!  Our next OWH Cardmaking Party at Cat's Creations Scrapbooks in Mineral Wells, TX will be on Thursday, January 5.

At the retreat, we were introduced to the new We R Memory Keepers Sew Ribbon tool.  What a way to "class up" a card, and it's easy, too!  The pattern you see on the card below uses the Shoelace Sew Ribbon tool, but there are many others to choose from.  You can use your own ribbon or the We R Memory Keepers ribbons which coordinate perfectly with their new brads.  Love me some We R!
Card Supplies:
Patterned Paper and Blue - Pebbles Downtown collection
Thank U stamp - Stampin' Up Pennant Parade set
Circle Punches - Stampin' Up

Doodle Pantry - Bluebonnets

It was truly serendipity to find that this month's new releases at Doodle Pantry included so many Texas themed images during the month when I am the guest designer!  Not only did Laurie create one of the cutest armadillo images ever, she also pays homage to the state as a whole with the set called Texas.  My favorite though has to be the Bluebonnet set

Bluebonnets always remind me of my dear grandmother who died just as my daughter was turning one!  My grandmother was a Texan through and through who was transplanted to the northeast but NEVER lost her accent.  She loved all things Texas but especially bluebonnets.  Every spring when the bluebonnets blossom, my daughter and I talk about my grandmother and how much she loved bluebonnets.

Hambo Hoedown - Camera Guy

First off, I want to send happy belated birthday wishes to Timbo at Hambo Stamps.  Without him, we wouldn't have all of these cool images to play with!  Thanks!

This week's Hambo Hoedown challenge is to use the Camera Guy digi along with a frame.  They were very specific about it - a frame goes over an image and a mat goes behind an image - so be sure you get it right!!  I was going to make a frame with my Cricut until I remembered all of the slide frames I had from "way back when" when they were all the rage as a scrapbooking embellishment.  Keep things long enough and they'll come back into style again, right?  I guess that should be the title of my post because my patterned paper is a scrap from "way back when" as well!
Card Supplies:
From stash - patterned paper, yellow and black cardstock, plastic slide frame
Mark Richards - self-adhesive black nail heads
Spellbinders Nestabilities - oval and scalloped oval dies

Hambo Stamps - Turtle Carver

Happy Anniversary to my brother and his wife today on 11-11-11!

Today I thought I'd use a Hambo digi called Turtle Carver to celebrate love in honor of their anniversary and because at Operation Write Home we are making lots of love cards for the upcoming Valentine's Day deadline on December 31.  I used Basic Grey patterned paper from the Euphoria collection along with the following Copic markers to color my image: N1, YG03, R29, G24, G28, RV21, RV23, and RV25.

Doodle Pantry - Let Your Light Shine

I have so many Doodle Pantry images and sets that I haven't gotten around to using them all yet.  Here's one that I really like because lighthouses remind me of visiting my mom on the East coast where I grew up.  This set is called Little Lighthouse and includes a pre-colored and outline image as well as the sentiment and the two digi papers shown on my card.  In addition to all the wonderful products from Doodle Pantry, I used my Nestabilities oval and scalloped oval die cuts, self-adhesive nail heads by Mark Richards and Memento tuxedo black ink around the sentiment.

Hambo Hoedown - Snail Rake

This week in the Hambo Hoedown progressive challenge, we received this adorable little snail who is busy at work raking up the leaves (Snail Rake digi).  The challenge this week was to use a technique from Splitcoast Stampers along with the image to make our card.  I love Splitcoast Stampers and get sucked in to hours of browsing through techniques and card galleries whenever I visit!  I had printed out the Big Buckle Card tutorial by Beate Johns a long, long time ago so I pulled it out for this week's Hambo Challenge.  Thanks, Hambo, for pushing me to do something I've been meaning to for a while.

OWH Card Party at Cat's Creations Scrapbooks

Last night I participated in another bi-monthly Operation Write Home Card Party held at Cat's Creations Scrapbooks in Mineral Wells, TX.  I take the supplies (card bases, OWH labels, envelopes, large flat rate box) and make sure that the administrative end of things are taken care of (no glitter, dark cards lined, all cards labeled and tucked).  Cat, the store owner, provides the location, encourages people to come, and provides a few supplies for those who don't bring their own.

We had 7 women attend and got 113 cards into the box.  Cat is hosting a 4-day scrapbook retreat that starts next Thursday and decided that we could get the ladies to make a few more cards and fill the box by the end of next weekend - WOOHOO!

Pictured below are some of the LOVE cards that we put in the box tonight.  Don't forget that the deadline for Valentine's Day (we're doing LOVE because they have a longer shelf life) is December 31!  Please help the shippers and make sure your cards ARRIVE by December 31 or earlier.  :-)

And we also got some birthday cards as well...

As You Wish Designs - Fundraiser for OWH Part 3

As You Wish Designs is having a fundraiser in support of Operation Write Home's shipping costs for holiday cards - the estimated costs to ship all of the cards that volunteers across the country have made is a whopping $13,000!  To support the cause and feed your addiction to everything card making related, visit As You Wish Designs where you can buy 13 images for just $5 with all proceeds after PayPal fees going directly to Operation Write Home.

Here's another card I made from the Card Quotes set.  The image is by Sabrina and has a very masculine feel to it which always make perfect cards for Operation Write Home.  I used Nestabilities to die cut the image/sentiment and the scalloped border behind it.  From my stash of masculine papers, I chose the blue and brown combo from a long ago collection from Making Memories.

Doodle Pantry - November Guest Designer

I am so excited to be a guest designer this month for Laurie Wilson at Doodle Pantry!  I absolutely LOVE her pre-colored images and digital papers.  She has outline images, too, but she can color so much better than I can!  The "characters" she creates are just as cute as can be.  Some of my favorites are the sheep, the birdie and the ants!  What?  You've never visited Doodle Pantry?  You MUST go and check it out...go on, what are you waiting for?  Ohhhhh, you want to see the card I made first?

Today is the Doodle Pantry November Release day.  I used one of the new images from the 12 Days of Christmas set which I combined with the circle sentiment AND the digital paper.  I just love how this turned out because I didn't have it in mind when I started, but it looks just like a gift wrapped Christmas package, doesn't it?

Now, hurry on over to Doodle Pantry to see all of the fantastic new images.  If you're like me, you'll want them all!
